• Los CDs de Sony llevan otro software aparte del XPC de First4Internet, y es el MediaMax de SunnComm [freedom-to-tinker.com], un DRM que aunque no se puede considerar un rootkit, si que puede ser considerado como spyware:

  "These files remain installed even if you decline the agreement. One of them, a kernel-level driver with the cryptic name “sbcphid”, is both installed and launched. This component is the heart of the copy protection system. When it is running, it attempts to block CD ripping and copying applications from reading the audio tracks on SunnComm-protected discs. MediaMax refrains from making one final change until after you accept the license—it doesn’t set the driver to automatically run again every time Windows starts. Nevertheless, the code keeps running until the computer is restarted and remains on the hard disk indefinitely, even if the agreement is declined."

• Ed Felten recomienda no utilizar el desinstalador de Sony [freedom-to-tinker.com] para desinstalar el XPC, ya que el agujero de seguridad que queda en tu ordenador es incluso más grave que el del propio rootkit:

  "The consequences of the flaw are severe. It allows any web page you visit to download, install, and run any code it likes on your computer. Any web page can seize control of your computer; then it can do anything it likes. That’s about as serious as a security flaw can get."

En fín, como se dice comunmente, peor el remedio que la enfermedad.

NO, si eres usuario de linux no te tiene que preocupar ni los virus, ni el spyware, ni las maniobras de las multinacionales. No te tienes que preocupar por nada.
